Photographer Linelle Deunk (1967) was born in Germany and moved to the Netherlands in 1974. She obtained her master's degree in Movement Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and later started her PhD at the Radboud Universitair Medisch Centrum. After 4 years, she quit her studies and shifted her interest to photography. Deunk graduated from the Fotoacademie in 2009 and shortly after won the Silver Camera for the portrait series Pien, 10 years, which was the start of her professional career.
Linelle focused primarily on portraying pre-adolescent children, usually in relation to their emerging identity, physical appearance and in relation to their families. The strength of her photography - besides a highly recognizable aesthetic, simple yet intense black and white - is reflected in the way Linelle is allowed into the intimate world of the individual. Her portraits of often young people exude a natural conviction.
Linelle Deunk's photography has won multiple awards and is exhibited nationally and internationally. She won the Zilveren Camera several times with both various series and single portraits and was nominated twice for the Dutch National Portrait Prize.
